Early Years: General Information  current topic

The staff in the Early Years Unit are:
Miss S Thompson (class teacher)
Miss S Heggie (classroom assistant)
Mrs G Greenall (classroom assistant)

In addition to these qualified staff a number of students may be joining us during the year. You may also meet other members of staff on your visits to the school.

Homework
Literacy, reading and numeracy homework will be given on a Friday. This will be in the form of a worksheet which will be in a special homework book and folder. Please ensure that all homework is completed and that the folder and book is returned to school by Tuesday of each week.

Session Times
Children in Reception will be in full time. School starts at 9am and school ends at 3pm. Children can either bring a packed lunch or have school dinners. If you think you are eligible for free school meals, please see the school secretary.

Snack time
Each day the children will all have a snack time. During snack time we encourage healthy eating and the children will have milk and fruit. The children will also bake and prepare their own snack. To help cover the cost we ask for a contribution of 50p per week.

PE Days
Reception PE days are on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Children will need to bring in their PE kit which should consist of  shorts, T-shirt and suitable footwear, e.g. Plimsolls. If your child has an earring (s) it will be covered with a plaster during PE sessions. Nursery PE days are also on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons but no change of clothing will be necessary. The children will simply remove their shoes and socks. Please dress your child in practical clothing so that they feel comfortable and relaxed while in the nursery.

School Uniform
School uniform is available from the school secretary at the office. This includes a blue sweatshirt and grey trousers. It is advisable to put your child’s name on all their clothes. Both nursery and reception children are welcome to wear slippers throughout the day while in class. When purchasing outdoor shoes please consider those with Velcro as this can help your child become more independent in putting on and taking off their shoes.
